With the City of Spokane’s planned change to a residential recycling collection every two weeks starting May 3, residents can now use a new online tool to find out when recycling will take place where they live. The collection of recyclable materials will continue on the same day of the week, but will be done every two weeks instead.

Customers can use the Home Address Finder tool to find their pick-up day and week. Just start entering your address in the box below the map and select the address from the list displayed. The day and week of pick-up are displayed in the boxes above the map after selecting an address.

here is general calendar which shows the “Week A” and “Week B” recycling schedules through the end of the year. Postcards identifying a customer’s recycling week have also been mailed out and the carts have been marked with information about the recycling week being in progress.

Switching to recycling every two weeks will help manage the increasing costs of the recycling program without charging customers more. Customers who need a larger cart to handle their recyclables on the new schedule can call 3-1-1 to request a 96 gallon cart. Garbage and clean green waste pickup will remain on a weekly collection schedule.

As citizens get used to the change in the recycling collection schedule, the City is encouraging people to think about the “right to recycling”. Here are some easy steps to take into account:

  • Only put empty, clean and dry items.
  • Make sure the items are loose in the shopping cart.
  • Don’t guess what’s in the cart. If it is not on the list, do not put it in the shopping cart.
