Textile Recycling Announcement, Composting Workshop & More – Waterbury Roundabout


Textile recycling now operates within the Mad River Resource Management Alliance.

People can come to the Rodney Waste Transfer Station and Salvage Center with their used or unwanted clothing and fiber household items for recycling for free.

You can bring any type of material made from natural or synthetic fibers such as wool, silk, linen, cotton, polyester, leather, vinyl, hemp and rayon. Items can be donated in any condition. They can be torn, worn, stained, missing buttons and broken zippers as long as they are clean, dry and odorless.

So pack all types of clothing including clean outerwear and underwear, Halloween costumes, sportswear, plush toys, and pet clothing. You can include shoes (in pairs), backpacks, wallets, belts, gloves, ties, sheets, bathrobes, sheets, blankets, towels, curtains, drapes, aprons , cloth towels, decorative pillows (no feather pillows), duvets and blankets (no large rugs).

Textile recycling collection bins are provided by Helpsy, Inc., a textile recycling company in White Plains, NY. This service is free.

Bring your textiles for recycling to Rodney’s Rubbish on River Road in Waterbury. Hours of operation are Wednesday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. for lunch); Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Composting workshop on June 12, sale by truck

The Mad River Resource Management Alliance will be holding their Spring Composting Workshop and Composting Container Sale on Saturday June 12 in Waterbury.

The free workshop will be held in person in the Steele Room of the Waterbury Municipal Office from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Note whether you are interested in purchasing a Soil Saver compost bin or a green cone solar digester. Workshop attendees can purchase these items at reduced prices: $ 45 for the Soil Saver bin and $ 140 for the Green Cone. Please register before the close of business on June 10.

Currently, workshop attendance will be limited to 25 due to COVID-19 restrictions and masks must be worn.

If you are only interested in purchasing a Soil Saver or Green Cone, please email to reserve one during the full load sale that will take place on the same day, June 12 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. old armory on Armory Avenue behind Thatcher Brook Primary School. The prices for the composter without attending the workshop are $ 52 for the bins and $ 150 for the green cones.

There will be another composting workshop in Waitsfield on August 7th if you can’t attend the June 12th event.
