The next phase of five dairy biogas digesters is part of a network of lagoon digesters being built by Aemetis Biogas to produce renewable natural gas (RNG) for use as a transport fuel. The RNG produced by the first two dairy digesters was approved by the California Air Resources Board using 426 (-426) negative carbon intensity biogas to replace the petroleum-based natural gas used in the production facility. ethanol from Keyes.

The next phase of five dairy digesters is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2022, and ten more dairy digesters are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022. When completed, the seventeen dairy digesters built and operated by Aemetis are expected to produce around 440 000 MMBtu per year of renewable natural gas used in trucks and buses to replace carbon-based diesel fuel.

The 52 dairies planned for the Aemetis biogas project are expected to capture more than 1.4 million MMBtu of dairy methane and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to approximately 5.2 million metric tonnes of CO2 each year, which is equivalent to eliminating the emissions of about 1.1 million cars.

The Aemetis Biogas Dairy RNG Project, Aemetis Keyes Biofuel Plant Energy Efficiency Improvements, and the Aemetis Renewable Jet / Diesel Project include $ 57 million in grants and other support from the US Department of Agriculture , US Forest Service, California Energy Commission, California Department of Food and Agriculture, California State Treasurer’s Office, and Pacific Gas and Electric’s Energy Efficiency Program.
