As any follower of a skincare routine will tell you, it takes a lot to make or break one. But no matter how much of a purist you are, it’s a good idea to switch things up every now and then; just to see if something might work better for you. For the non-sticky, a great new brand is always worth dipping a toe in – you don’t come with the weight of a million expectations, and so a fresh take is welcome. Here is our list of five new, relatively unknown skincare brands that you should try, whether you’re on the casual or traditionalist side of the grooming fence.
5 skin care brands under the radar to incorporate into your skincare regimen:
1. LR Wonder Company
The Italian luxury brand entered the Indian market late last year and was immediately noticed by skincare scholars for its approach and off-the-beaten-path ingredients. In a grooming zeitgeist where vegan is the buzzword, the LR Wonder company uses ingredients that are empirically non-vegan, but sure to have an effect. While the 24K Gold and Plant ranges respond to this philosophy, it is their Caviar, Bee Venom and Snail ranges that make enthusiasts’ ears prick up. Check out their face, body and eye creams, as well as their masks and serums for a complete routine. The Caviar range is wonderful for its anti-aging properties, while melittin (bee venom) is great for firming and hydrating.
The all-vegan beauty brand is relatively new to the country and is on the radar of skincare aficionados this year for its line of vine extracts ‘Secrets of Vinotherapy, Bordeaux, France’. For those who tend to scour their skincare for anti-aging properties, the vine extracts, retinol, vitamin C, and mulberry from these products come together to form a fairly potent youth elixir. The stars of this range are the Red Vine Face Mask with Mulberry and Rosehip Oil, the Red Vine Body Lotion with Shea Butter and Aloe Vine, and the Red Vine Eye Cream with Retinol and Vitamin CA solid bet for a conscious skincare buyer because it is biocompatible, pH-friendly, and cruelty-free.
Although its launch at the end of last year was not loud, all attentive skincare scholars were aware of the arrival of the Swiss luxury skincare brand through its Radiance line. With products built around the basic ingredient glutathione, the brand is particularly useful for highly visible skin problems – think spots, wrinkles, pigmentation, and light scarring. The Radiance line includes three products; Glutaweis Glutathione Radiance Cleanser, Glutaweis Glutathione Radiance Serum and Glutaweis Glutathione Radiance Cream – which do their best as a team, on a regulated diet. The cream and serum are both non-sticky and lightweight, with the cleanser wiping off the slate perfectly for preparation.
4. The Derma Company.
Created in response to the millennial knee-jerk reaction to using makeup for dressing skin problems, this local brand was created to try and be effective, quality prescription products for the average Joe or Jane. With different formulations meant to specifically target skin issues like dryness, acne, pigmentation, open pores, and dull skin, you won’t find any single cure with this brand. However, it’s definitely worth bookmarking if you had a long-standing issue that you wanted to actively tackle – the products can be extremely specific, but this gives them the added benefit of being extremely effective. The 2% Salicylic Acid Mask is a dream for acne-prone skin, just like the 0.3% Retinol Serum is meant to correct blemishes.
With sunscreen formulas at its heart, this Japanese-origin brand is extremely relevant in a tropical country that receives devious sun all day like India. The light, water-based texture of many of their products is worth replacing many of the oily alternatives that are on the outside, especially for those sticky parts of the summer. Winning products include Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence | SPF 50+, Bioré UV Aqua Rich aqueous gel | SPF 50+ and the Bioré Cleansing Cleansing Foam. The big selling of this brand is its patented technology; the Micro Defense formula, with a capsule full of UV protection agents. Best recommended for skin care with sun protection, but works well even if you don’t need something with SPF.
