Nearly a decade ago, the Cimarron Alliance
Foundation made history by taking on Oklahoma
City officials who did not want gay pride
banners flown in our city.
CAF won the right to declare to all of Oklahoma
City that the LGBT Community is alive and proud
in our nation’s heartland, and we have flown the
banners proudly every June since then!
After withstanding several years of
wear-and-tear, however, many of the original
banners were in disrepair. As a result, the
Cimarron Alliance Foundation announced a banner
design contest in February 2007. The winning
design was submitted by Tay Duran and the new
banners were made possible by generous donations
from individuals and businesses in the
community. In total, fifty-four new banners
lined Classen Avenue during the 2007 Pride
celebration.
