Solidarity, by Richard Grune (1903-1983), lithograph 1947 Schwules Museum (Gay Museum) Berlin. Grune was incarcerated for homosexuality by the Nazi state from 1934 to 1945.

"First they came for Socialists, and I did not speak out  - because I was not a Socialist.  Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.  Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak for me.

Rev Martin Niemoeller (1892-1984)

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

The USHMM was formed by a presidential commission and chartered by a unanimous Act of Congress in 1980. The Museum strives to broaden public understanding of the history of the Holocaust and its victims through exhibitions, research and publication; collecting and preserving material evidence; distribution of educational material and teacher resources and presenting programs on related issues of contemporary significance.

The vast majority of the Third Reich’s victims were Jews:  Six million Jews were murdered.  Yet there were lesser known victims – hundreds of thousands of homosexuals, Gypsies, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the handicapped and Poles – who were also rounded-up, imprisoned, tortured and often killed.

Cimarron Alliance Foundation

The Cimarron Alliance Foundation (CAF) was formed in 1997 as an IRS Section 501(c) (3) organization to focus on educating the public about issues of discrimination facing gays and lesbians.

The Mission of the Cimarron Alliance Foundation is to support educational efforts that increase personal self-esteem, promote public enlightenment and advance equality for Oklahoma Gays and Lesbians”.

CAF believes that broad educational efforts must be initiated in order to inform Oklahomans about discrimination suffered by gays and lesbians.  CAF provides the community with important resources to meet its educational goals.  This non-profit foundation develops wide-reaching educational strategies to portray an accurate picture of Oklahoma City’s gay and lesbian community as honest, civic-minded participants in our city’s health, welfare and growth.  CAF also meets head-on the bias and intolerance directed at many of our citizens.
